Patch Deployment - SCCM 2012

Hello All,

I have a question with respect to software update and the question is: I created a software update group with x number of patches in them > Created a deployment Package > distributed the package to the distribution points. Now I wanted to remove certain patches - what is the correct way of doing it ?...

Can I go to the respective software update group > Remove the respective patches I do not need ? . if this is the right way, will the respective deployment package also get updated and distributed again ?, or are there any recommended way of doing this ?

Regards,

Raj

Software Center - Waiting to Install

Hi,

Server: SCCM 2012 R2

trying to do Win 10 1607 to 1709 upgrade using Service plans. Software center gets the update and downloads but gets stuck at the "waiting to install" stage. No errors in CAS.log or Locationservies.log. I read that this is due to SMSTSMGR Service Dependency to CCMEXEC but cannot find the resolution steps. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

regards

Hello,

Is there a way I can find the last installed patches on servers through SCCM 2012 ?, if not is there a SQL query or powershell ?

Cheers.

Health Attestation reporting all computers not ELAM compliant

$

Hello,

We have recently enabled the health attestation feature using microsofts HA service (not on-prem).  It is collecting data and reporting which is great.  However...

The Health Attestation feature thinks that the ELAM feature is not enabled on my computer (on any computer).  However, I checked this morning and it is enabled on my computer and reporting it is not compliant/healthy because of ELAM.  I also did a few config manager tasks to update policies on the client and to do new hardware & software inventories.  No change after.

Is there some kind of hardware or software class or file that has to be inventoried before it will detect if ELAM is enabled?  Some other requirement?  Or perhaps a log that may tell me why it is failing compliance for ELAM or in general?

Kind of new to sccm but am learning, any tips/pointers/urls would be appreciated.

If it helps, it can collect hardware inventory for UEFI, SecureBoot, BitLocker protection status.

SCCM Version 1802 (KB4163547 is not yet installed)

HA starting working last night and is reporting:

  • 24% of 246 devices are reporting HA (expected due to high Win7)
  • 57 non compliant computer devices
  • 3 devices with errors
  • 57 devices missing ELAM HA settings
  • 35 devices missing SecureBoot (expected)
  • 30 devices missing BitLocker (expected)

Software Changes are Required Continually Pops Up for Users

We have been running SCCM 2012 for some time now and for the most part works fine. This is more of an annoyance than anything else. I have had several users contact me recently (within the last two weeks) about the pop up appearing on their machines at log in. When they click to go into Software Center, there are no updates that haven't been installed yet. I'm trying to track down where this is suddenly coming from.  What logs can I look at that would indicate a missing update sending a reminder to the end user? Thanks!

Error: Failed to download content id . Error: There was an error downloading the software update. (12002)

Running into an issue that has cropped up recently. This error is showing up on a handful of patches when I try to download them from the Internet. If I try to manually download the patch directly through a browser on my Win 7 machine, it downloads without an issue. When I try to download it manually through IE on my site server, it starts to download until it hits some percentage of completion and then stops. I deleted all old software update groups and tried bringing down everything fresh - all 880 patches - and the same few patches get hung up.

The errors that show up are a mix of 12002 and 12029, mostly 12029, and it happens on the same 15 patches.

Where would be a good place to start? I attempted to download just one of these through the console and here is the relevant entry from the PatchDownloader log file:

The WsusPool is started in IIS. The WSUS services are running on the sccm server. Even with turning off the firewall, it still seems to be an issue. I have restart IIS, Wsus services, and the entire server hoping that it would fix the issue. What am I missing?

Thank you

SCCM version 1710

HI there,

On the 10th July our SCCM in the “All Software Updates” section had available for deployment the security Cumulative Updates for Windows 10 all editions, few days later I noticed they had been marked as Superseded and had been expired. https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com says that they are not superseded. KB examples are KB4338825, KB4338826, KB4338819.

On the 16th July another bunch of updates appeared for Cumulative Updates for Windows 10, but these are only marked as “Updates”, not Security ones.

I need to deploy the security updates for Windows 10, but they have not updated. I’ve ran “Synchronise Software updates” several times, but it makes no difference. What have these security updates been replaced with? Is anyone else having the same issue?

SCEP clients updating but not reporting their status back to SCCM

Hi all,

I have the following problem: I recently have connected my Windows servers to our new SCCM 2012 environment. Now I'm deploying Windows Updates and SCEP Definition updates through SCCM 2012. This works well! Windows Updates are installing and the servers are reporting back their status to SCCM. SCEP Definition updates are being installed as well, but here, my servers are not reporting back to SCCM... they are all stated "Status Unknown".

I have checked the Endpointprotectoragent.log file, and there are no error messages, just the last messages say:

-start to send State Message with topic type = 2001, state id = 3, and error code = 0x00000000

-Skip sending state message due to same state message already exists.

Does somebody know how I could fix this?

Thanks a lot!!!

Software Update / Window 10 OS Notification Prompt

Windows 10 clients are getting the software updates from SCCM.   We are getting reports from customers they are receiving a notification in the SYSTRAY from the OS Notification Center "Your device is missing important updates"    We only want the SCCM Client to notify the customers for updates / software installations, we do not want two separate notifications going to the users (SCCM / OS)

Has anyone else seen this prompt with Windows 10 1803?    We recently noticed this behavior.

Software Updates - Non-compliant Success?

Howdy,

We just sent out our first batch of updates using an ADR we created.  Most of the machines installed and rebooted just fine but some are stuck in In Progress and some gave various errors.

In our first batch we have 5 servers that show as In Progress.  The status simply says "Non-compliant".  When I double click on each server listed, it says:
Status: Non-compliant
Error Code: 0x00000000
Error Description: Success

I don't really have much to go on.  Can anyone help me figure out why these machines seem to be stuck?  Not sure which log file would be the first one to start with but I'm happy to provide any of them.

Thanks!

SCCM 2012- The application was not detected after installation completed(java update)

Hi,

Anyone faced following issue,

I have deployed Java 8u162 update on several machines, I have wrote script to remove all older versions and install the 8u162.

After the deployment initiated so many machines got the update and installed successfully but there are around 70 machines where latest update installation failed and having same issue saying "The application was not detected after installation completed". On software center the error code is showing as 0x87D00324(-2016410844).

However, when I checked on 2-3 machines, java was not installed properly and old versions are also not present in those machines. I'm unable to see java in Add/Remove entry and I didn't find Product code in Uninstall Hive registry, I didn't find Configure java option from start menu, but the installation files are placed under C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_162 because I assume the installation failed in the middle.

I tried to install manually java 8u162 msi application it is failing without any error prompting. I downloaded 8u162 .exe file and tried to install the .exe and it is saying C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_162 is not empty(because of previous installation failed in the middle and files are left as it is), then I changed installation location C:\temp\jre1.8.0_162 and retriggered installation then java 8u162 installed successfully. I opened software center and clicked install and that time it is showing installed because I assume the application installed successfully and software center able to detect.

Is it java installation issue or SCCM installation issue or something wrong in the machine ?

Can anyone suggest some solution.

SCCM 1802 Integration with Flexera Plugin

Hi All,

We have SCCM 1802 at one of our customer premises and its configured in PKI mode and its integrated with flexera plugin to get third party software update.

How Flexera works with SCCM:

1. First we have to download the Publish third party package with in the SCCM Console using flexera plug in

2. Once its published, it store the content of that package in WSUSCONTENT folder

3. After that we have to download the published package from SCCM "ALL Software updates" and create a deployment package

Problem: I am facing issue while downloading the content, After investigation we found in PatchDownloader log its actually trying to connect with http mode instead of https, below is the log example:

HttpSendRequest failed HTTP_STATUS_FORBIDDEN or HTTP_STATUS_DENIED

Download http://SCCM.DEMO.NET:8530/Content/E0/2B651D8FAE3ED091910F2199D9616542318CA7E0.cab to C:\Users\SCCMCH~1\AppData\Local\Temp\2\CAB1D50.tmp returns 403

WSUS is configured on ssl mode and SCCM is on PKI and all the communication is working fine. Only issue i am facing while downloading the third party package

Note: I am only facing this issue on third party updates, Microsoft patching are all fine.

Appreciate someone help..

Thanks Rahul$

as per the manual gives prompts which need accepting.
