OnSearchComplete - Failed to end search job. Error = 0x80072efe.

Hi,

We were testing software update deployment with small software update group of 10 updates and were able to test well but today we created OS wise groups and pushed 8 Software updated groups to Win7, Win8 and Win10 around 1300 machines.

Out of 8 groups 3 are having updates around 400 to 800 and you can see in updatestore.log file in the attached file.

Also I have attached few log files below showing error mentioned in the subject "OnSearchComplete - Failed to end search job. Error = 0x80072efe" which we can see in many log files as shown below. when checked we saw WSUSPool got stopped on Primary site which is SUP source for client and we changed memory to 8 GB also but still this pool gets stopped after sometime.

Can it be due to large software update group deployed?

for windows hardeing -How to remediate bulk desktop through script

Hi folks,

need your urgent help.

My question is with sccm 2012  and how to remediate computers found not to be compliant. I see a lot of the remediation relies on you providing scripts to carry out the remediation action. Now im no script genius, i can get by but this is on another level considering the lack of time im going to have to get this all done.

Can anyone offer any good advice with regards to where to get scripts to get the job done, of do i indeed have to construct scripts for what seems like template compliance settings..?

SCCM/WSUS Problems Synchronising Update Content from Upstream

I have the two Win 7 IE11 updates (KB2841134) in an Update Group on their own (x86 and x64). I have downloaded them to a Deployment package and that completed with no errors.

However, in the content folder, there are no en-US updates. It has downloaded every other language (even though only English was ticked), but not the files i actually need.

Needless to say, no client machines can install IE11.

On the SCCM specific downstream WSUS server, it is untouched, no approvals or declines.

On the upstream WSUS server, the Win 7 x86 IE11 update is Approved for all, and the Win 7 x64 update is Declined. Should that make any difference to the downstream?

If not, why will my downstream not obtain the required content.

Many Thanks,

SW Update Group Statistics Include Untargeted Devices

We are new to SCCM 2012SP1 and are currently implementing the Software Update feature. We have the following collections:

Windows - All Workstation (Query collection for non-servers limited by All Desktops and Servers)

Win7-32 (Query collection limited by Windows - All Workstations)

Win7-64 (Query collection limited by Windows - All Workstations)

We have used Automatic Deployment Rules to create/schedule Deployment Packages/Software Update Groups/Deployments for 32 and 64 bit Windows 7 updates to target the above collections. We did it this way to reduce size of deployments for performance reasons (hopefully).

What I'm noticing now is that when I examine either of the Software Update Groups for these deployments, the Statistics show compliance/non-compliance for ALL devices, not just the targeted devices. Moreover, they show exactly the same statistics. For example if I have 2 32-bit and 1 64-bit systems, both groups statistics show that 3 devices are compliant.

Is that normal? If so what good is it? Or is it telling me that I should be configuring my ADR/DepPkg/SUG/etc differently?

Cleaning Expired software updates in SCCM 2012 R2 SP1

Hi everyone,

I have a question about cleaning up software updates in SCCM 2012 R2 SP1.
If I have understood correctly, SCCM will automatically delete expired and superseded (if i choose that option - Immediately expire a superseded update) software updates from Software update group and Deployment Package which is on my Distribution Point.

1.) What will happen with source folder of my package, share where my updates are stored, will updates be deleted from there also?
2.) Should i use WSUS clean up wizard on SCCM?

Thanks for help, I was looking around for answer, but i couldn't find it. Sorry for bad english.

WSUS Stop Working after install the update KB3159706

Good day everybody, I have a WSUS in Windows Server 2012 as a Software Update point of a SCCM 2012 R2.
I need to deploy Windows 10 Anniversary Update. I understand that i need to install the Update KB3159706 in my WSUS. I followed these This article for the installation:  https://support.microsoft.com/es-sv/kb/3159706.

I install the update  and i did the postinstallation of this update:

1- When i run the command "C:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools\wsusutil.exe" postinstall /servicing in a elevated Command Prompt window show me this error:

Error of the statement ALTER DATABASE failed because a lock could not be placed on database SUSDB . Try again later.

2- I dont have problem enabling HTTP Activation under .NET Framework 4.5 Features in the Server Manager Add Roles and Features wizard & Restart the WSUS service.

After that my WSUS stop working

I will appreciate any help

Patching old systems/ newly formatted systems

Hi,

We are doing patching using SCCM 2012 and have created software update groups for last 6 months for any system which is not patched in last 6 months, but our concern is that if there is some machine which comes online which is not patched since 2008 or 2010 or recently formatted with CD then same will get only latest updates from sccm for last 6 months but will be missing with earlier updates, so need to know in such scenario how we should keep system updated?

Thanks

Client installs updates but SCCM status shows as In Progress

$

I am having this issue only with software updates. Applications and Programs have no issues.  I deployed Windows updates 2 weeks ago to a collection with daily 7 hour long maintenance windows. Today, half of the computers are showing as compliant, while half are still showing as In Progress - Downloaded Updates.

Using one of these clients as an example, I checked Event Viewer, and all updates installed successfully two weeks ago during the first maintenance window, and the computer successfully restarted as well. However, both deployment monitoring and the Overall Compliance report show the status for this particular machine as Downloaded Updates with a last enforcement and compliance date of yesterday. Looking at more details, it shows all the individual updates as required with no enforcement state or time.

All computers are Windows 7. Any ideas?

In addition - I don't know if this is relevant or not - the deployment monitoring for software updates has been resetting to zero every week with Client Check Passed/Active status. I think this is because the global Software Update Scan Schedule and the Software Updates Deployment Re-Evaluation is set to evaluate every Saturday, and all our computers are turned off during weekends. A few days ago I changed power management settings to wake the computers even on weekends, so I haven't had a chance to see if this will fix this issue. But again, I don't know if this is relevant to the above issue.
EDIT: the above has no relevance because I just discovered that this particular computer was turned on during the weekend evaluation tasks.

Software Update Group Downloaded Status as NO

Hi,

On my Primary Site Server Downloaded status of  two Software update group isNO  and Software update Group icon as Invalid as below:

I checked both Software update group and found there is only one Software update  (KB2758694) that has icon Invalid and downloaded status is NO in both Software Updated Group.

But When i checked same both Software Update group on CAS Site Server  and it all Software updates ,the icon is normal and also downloaded status is showing as Yes.

Both Software update group has same update package, the size is high so i can`t redistributed this update group for my Primary Site`s DP Group. All the Database Replication between CAS >Primary Site and primary site >CAS is fine. issue is with only two Software update group.

Now i am looking for the troubleshooting ,how can i solve this, which logs will help us to solve this..

Updates installation failed on server 2008 R2 SP1 and 2012 R2

Hi,

I deployed Server OS updates to many servers from SCCM 2012 SP2,but on 2 Servers (one is Server 2008 R2 SP1 and one is Server 2012 R2 Standard ) updates are getting failed to install and even some applicable server OS updates are not visible in available node in Software center also.

I checked the below logs  and found below error on both servers ,as per this log required files in Server OS is missing or corrupt but how can i know the exact missing/corrupt file to solve this issue.

I am looking for the solution how to solve this update installation issue as these are production servers i cannot do more troubleshooting from OS Level.

On Servers internet is not accessible. i renamed the Software Distribution folder but still issue is same.

SMS NOTIFICATION SERVER failed to initialize msg ID 9800, error 2147654730

On one of my SCCM suites the SMS_NOTFICATION_SERVER is having trouble. The message ID in monitoring is 9800 and the message says "Notification Server on <server fqdn> failed to initialize. The operating system reported error 2147654730: Error loading type library/DLL." My BGSERVER.LOG is almost solid red. It keeps repeating "Failed to create bgbservercontroller instance 800029c4a." I can't find anything to tell me which library/DLL this is nor how to fix it. The closest thing I can find is a thread on failed to initialize but the error code is different so it didn't help. The other BGB logs look clean. I can't find anything in the Server 2012 event viewer that corresponds to this.

Any help appreciated.

Clients do not receive Update anymore

Hi,

already close to a nervous breakdown:

Some time ago we had our WSUS / SUP working fine with SCCM 2012 SP1, installed on a (virtual) server 2008R2
Due to performance issues we were forced to move SCCM to a powerful hardware box.

there we installed server 2012R2 as OS, and we succesfully did restore a SCCM Backup from the virtual Machine
We've been told to keep the same servername as the virtual - to succeed on SCCM backup restore

So far so good ... all does work fine, on top of, we did upgrade to CU3

However since that day - none of our clients did receive a single WSUS update anymore. On the server side all is fine to me.
updates are synchronised - automatic deployment rules do what they have to do, software update groups are created, updates downloaded, distributed and deployed.
update deployments are required with deadline and so on ...

the logs on the server do look fine ...except one thing in the WCM.log which came to my attention

Checking for supported version of WSUS (min WSUS 3.0 SP2 + KB2720211 + KB2734608) SMS_WSUS_CONFIGURATION_MANAGER 10.04.2014 08:38:01 3208 (0x0C88)

It states that it can't find a supported version of assembly - but 2 lines later it says that it has one of a higher release
Since server 20112R2 does come with a higher WSUS release. so I think no issue here ...

Even on the client side I do not find errors - see here entries of WUAhandler.log (here I changed servername & domain) but in real life the server's name = correct

FYI - we are not using GPO's to set WSUS source .. boundaries are configured correct ....

on the SCCM server In the deployment status for a software updates deployment -> clients report - status unknown -> client check passed /active

To me the clients don't detect that there are new updates available.

Have you any idea where it can go wrong .. I so far can't find out why.

Thanks

OS update deployment using SCCM

$

Hi All,

We are trying to achieve deploying of Windows IoT Core OS updates through Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM 1606) to IoT devices (read Raspberry PI 3).

We want to belong to the Current Branch for Business (CBB) to allow us upto 8 months to test our applications on the released OS builds.

We are able to enroll devices into SCCM and able to deploy UWP applications just fine but it is not happening for the OS updates. We are enrolling devices with the recommended settings advised viz. Policy/Update/AllowAutoUpdate = Turn Off Automatic Updates and Policy/Update/RequireDeferUpgrade ==> Pause Updates to set the device as a CBB branch device. The development PC is OS 1607 Windows 10 Home.

As per documentation, we have also created a servicing plan with the CBB deployment ring set to allow delay of 60 days and mapped to a Device Collection. I know that servicing plan is essentially an auto deployment rule which gathers updates into a software update group which uses the upgrades according to the specified critieria (we need Language=English and Title=Windows IoT).

The issue is that we are not getting any updates matching the Title=Windows IoT but windows 10 is available. Also these updates are not getitng past the basic ClientActivity=Active check and the device is also not downloading any update at its end. There is also no obvious use to test this by deploying any Windows 10 update to the IoT device.

How do we make this work to be able to gather Windows IoT OS updates as per the CBB delivery cycle and deploy it to the IoT devices mentioned above?

Please advise if there is anything done wrongly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please advise if this is not the right place to post this and kindly help me to the right place.

Thanks and Regards,

Shridhar Iyer

Hello Folks,

I want to know services and/or process involved on software update on client workstation like WUAUCLT.exe. I need to know that, because we have a power manager application that hibernate machines that is not in use after some time, i want to create a policy that do nothing if the machine is in update process  through SCCM.

Hi,

We have a single primary site SCCM 2012 R2 in out test environment. We used to deploy software updates and distribute packages to the servers and clients via SCCM. Sometimes the clients are failed to download content from DP for few servers. The folders were created on clients but it is empty. AFter i restart sms host services and initiate machine and software update policy then the clients are downloaded content from sccm server. This is happening very often on some clients.

Expire SCUP Updates failed at 5 Updates

Hello,

I have some trouble with my SCUP. I will expire old Flash Updates. I set them to expire an republish the updates. I expire 22 Updates. The result show me, that 5 Updates cannot be published:

All 5 Updates have the same errormessages (with other Package Codes). I don´t think that I have an Certificate issu. All other updates works fine.

I tried to export the update, delete it an import it again. I also create a new Package an export it, edit the XML file with the UpdateID and InstallableItem ID from the old Package. Both do not change my result, I still get this error.

How can I expire or delete these 5 Updates in SCCM 2012 or/and how can I fix my problem?

Greatings and sorry for my bad english ;-)

Dennis
