Any Suggestions?

OS update deployment using SCCM

Hi All,

We are trying to achieve deploying of Windows IoT Core OS updates through Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM 1606) to IoT devices (read Raspberry PI 3).

We want to belong to the Current Branch for Business (CBB) to allow us upto 8 months to test our applications on the released OS builds.

We are able to enroll devices into SCCM and able to deploy UWP applications just fine but it is not happening for the OS updates. We are enrolling devices with the recommended settings advised viz. Policy/Update/AllowAutoUpdate = Turn Off Automatic Updates and Policy/Update/RequireDeferUpgrade ==> Pause Updates to set the device as a CBB branch device. The development PC is OS 1607 Windows 10 Home.

As per documentation, we have also created a servicing plan with the CBB deployment ring set to allow delay of 60 days and mapped to a Device Collection. I know that servicing plan is essentially an auto deployment rule which gathers updates into a software update group which uses the upgrades according to the specified critieria (we need Language=English and Title=Windows IoT).

The issue is that we are not getting any updates matching the Title=Windows IoT but windows 10 is available. Also these updates are not getitng past the basic ClientActivity=Active check and the device is also not downloading any update at its end. There is also no obvious use to test this by deploying any Windows 10 update to the IoT device.

How do we make this work to be able to gather Windows IoT OS updates as per the CBB delivery cycle and deploy it to the IoT devices mentioned above?

Please advise if there is anything done wrongly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please advise if this is not the right place to post this and kindly help me to the right place.

Thanks and Regards,

Shridhar Iyer

Hi,

We deployed Security updates through SCCM 2012 to the servers, unfortunately  Windows Sever 2008 SP2 servers are falling under Compliance State in Reports. But When I log-in to the servers the the patches are not installed on them. There is no errors in SCCM Client logs. When I ran windows Updates, the same updates are listed as applicable what i deployed through SCCM. can Someone please help me on this.

Thanks!

I am trying to find out what sccm log files are written to when you run specific actions for configuration manager.

When clicking on Machine Policy Retrieval and Evaluation Cycle what log is written to?

When clicking on Software Inventory Cycle what log is written to?

When Software Updates Deployment Evaluation cycle what log is written to?

I did find when running Software update scan cycle is run the WUAHandler.log file is written to.  Can someone verify this.

Thanks

Hi,

We were testing software update deployment with small software update group of 10 updates and were able to test well but today we created OS wise groups and pushed 8 Software updated groups to Win7, Win8 and Win10 around 1300 machines.

Out of 8 groups 3 are having updates around 400 to 800 and you can see in updatestore.log file in the attached file.

Also I have attached few log files below showing error mentioned in the subject "OnSearchComplete - Failed to end search job. Error = 0x80072efe" which we can see in many log files as shown below. when checked we saw WSUSPool got stopped on Primary site which is SUP source for client and we changed memory to 8 GB also but still this pool gets stopped after sometime.

Can it be due to large software update group deployed?

The WsusPool is started in IIS. The WSUS services are running on the sccm server. Even with turning off the firewall, it still seems to be an issue. I have restart IIS, Wsus services, and the entire server hoping that it would fix the issue. What am I missing?

Thank you

Charles

Modify SQL query to list SUP Products

I have this query which returns the list of Products available from Software Update Point Component Properties---Products... in the SCCM console. I want to modify it to also include whether the Product has been selected. I'm a pretend DBA and hoping someone has done this or can help figure it out.

SCCM 2012 R2 1606 - Issues with software updates, Access is denied & Unknown Error

We've recently updated our SCCM 2012 R2 from 1511 to 1602 then to 1606 straight away.

Ever since the update I'm having issues deploying software updates, for Windows 10 as well as the Office 365 Client.

Checking monitoring for the deployment the machines report Error with error code = 0x8007755A Unknown Error (-2146994854) - Failed to download update(s)

The only thing I can find in the logs for a machine with failed to download is: (From Updateshandler.log)

And in DataTransferService.log I get as follows:

I've tried looking up the various error codes but I've had no luck, the best I found was 4 different german sites that didn't offer me much help.

I've looked into IIS authentication settings as suggested on various sites but the SMS_DP_SMSPKG$ & SMS_DP_SMSSIG both have Anonymous authentication as well as Windows authentication.

I've also looked into being able to connect to the WMI on the targeted machines and all of that works just fine.

Is this the point where I re-install the entire SUP on my SCCM server? I cannot seem to find what is causing this issue in the first place as we didn't attempt many software updates during the older version of SCCM so I can't say for sure whether this broke during the update to 1606 or not.

Security updates for adobe flash and malicious software removal tools seem to install fine.

I would really appreciate some help with this.

Summarization request failed

After having issues with the latest patch (KB3159706), I had to restore my entire Configuration Manager server from backup and reapply the update. Since then, I am unable to run summarization on Update Deployments that had occurred prior to the patch. I am getting the following error:

"The summarization request for this deployment failed. To run summarization, you must be granted deployment rights for the selected item."

No security settings have changed on my server and I'm not sure what log file to look at for additional information.

Hey all, looking for some advice. When scanning Windows Updates on a Windows Server 2012 R2 system it reported that KB2887595 was required by the server. This update rollup contains 4 other updates: KB2898514, KB2901101, KB2906956, and KB2908174. Neither the rollup nor the individual updates are even downloadable in my SCCM 2012 R2 catalog. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

Windows 7 updates

Hi

We have prepared new SCCM 2012 R2 server and preparing to update Windows 7 machines. We found updates since 2011 have to be installed on most of the systems (both security and other updates). We created multiple software update groups based on year and security / other updates. What should be the best practice to be followed here to install all the required updates to Win 7 systems

Thanks in advance

User Experience vs Maintenance Window

Hello,

I have a collection with a maintenance windows scheduled between 03:00am - 06:00am.

I have a deployment of software update with deadline behavior only tick the software updates installation outside the maintenance window.    The system restart is not selected.

In the device restart behavior both servers and workstations are not selected.

Some client complains that during normal working hour they get a notification that their computer will restart in some minutes.

any idea why this happen ?

SCUP and Adobe Reader DC

Can someone clarify a few points for me. I'm knew to SCUP but have a good understanding of what is going on apart from two points

1) There are several catalogs at Adobe for Reader DC what are the difference between the two?

Reader Continuous Track DC

Reader Continuous Track (DC) Transition?

2) Obviously these are a download and not an inbuilt subscription to SCUP like earlier versions. Is there a way of automating the download of these and importing them on a schedule?

Since DC we are seeing massive amounts of daily traffic to Adobe over 100GB a day(need to sort our caching out!)! So keen to sort out the last few points.

We did try Adobe Update Server but it seems to do every update apart from Flash and Reader which is a bit daft really!

Thanks,

Robbie

Software Update Point - Doesn't Show some updates

Hello Folks,

My ConfigMgr SUP is configured to download Critical and Security updates for almost all version of the Windows (XP, 7, 8.1 and 10), but when i search to deploy a single update like KB3197867 for Windows 7, its doesn't show on my console.

I verified on the MS Bulletin and says that is an critical update, but my SUP is not downloading this update.

Machines Falling Back to Unknown Status

The software Updates Deployment was showing a 85 % complaint Yesterday and today in the morning the deployment says 80 % unknown. All machines which were showing as compliant Yesterday are now showing as unknown "Client check passed/active"

I have the Update Scan Schedule set to 1 day and Deployment Re-evaluation set to 3 days in Client settings.

I know the patches are installed as the compliance report says so and have checked some machines manually.

What I have seen is that eventually as the day passes most of the machines in the deployment come back to compliant.

Can someone please help me explain this behavior. is there something I am missing. I am really not sure where to start looking for this.

Thanks in advance

Client installs updates but SCCM status shows as In Progress

I am having this issue only with software updates. Applications and Programs have no issues.  I deployed Windows updates 2 weeks ago to a collection with daily 7 hour long maintenance windows. Today, half of the computers are showing as compliant, while half are still showing as In Progress - Downloaded Updates.

Using one of these clients as an example, I checked Event Viewer, and all updates installed successfully two weeks ago during the first maintenance window, and the computer successfully restarted as well. However, both deployment monitoring and the Overall Compliance report show the status for this particular machine as Downloaded Updates with a last enforcement and compliance date of yesterday. Looking at more details, it shows all the individual updates as required with no enforcement state or time.

All computers are Windows 7. Any ideas?

In addition - I don't know if this is relevant or not - the deployment monitoring for software updates has been resetting to zero every week with Client Check Passed/Active status. I think this is because the global Software Update Scan Schedule and the Software Updates Deployment Re-Evaluation is set to evaluate every Saturday, and all our computers are turned off during weekends. A few days ago I changed power management settings to wake the computers even on weekends, so I haven't had a chance to see if this will fix this issue. But again, I don't know if this is relevant to the above issue.
EDIT: the above has no relevance because I just discovered that this particular computer was turned on during the weekend evaluation tasks.
