Windows updates through SCCM

Hello,

Greetings!!!

I have a question for you. Say for example I was using workstation from 1 Jan 2016 and I was getting windows updates through SCCM console. however after I reimaged (after 8 months) I had issues in my workstation and I have reimaged it. My question to you now is after reimaging my workstation does my workstation take all the required Microsoft updates  from Jan 2016 or does it take only which is showing in SCCM console.

Also does SCCM console will have all the updates which is required for that particular workstation or how? because this workstation was missing hundreds of updates in my workstation after I reimaged it and even after patching it through sccm console.

Kindly advice on this please.

Regards,
hari

HI

Recently we have deployed the software update. after fetching the states-5 "States for an Update in Deployment" we have listed out the "update is not required" status clients and we checked the machines manually but we can install the same updates without any issue. Please let us know what could be the issue.

SCEP clients updating but not reporting their status back to SCCM

Hi all,

I have the following problem: I recently have connected my Windows servers to our new SCCM 2012 environment. Now I'm deploying Windows Updates and SCEP Definition updates through SCCM 2012. This works well! Windows Updates are installing and the servers are reporting back their status to SCCM. SCEP Definition updates are being installed as well, but here, my servers are not reporting back to SCCM... they are all stated "Status Unknown".

I have checked the Endpointprotectoragent.log file, and there are no error messages, just the last messages say:

-start to send State Message with topic type = 2001, state id = 3, and error code = 0x00000000

-Skip sending state message due to same state message already exists.

Does somebody know how I could fix this?

Thanks a lot!!!

SCCM as Windows Update Mgr & relationship with WSUS

I am trying to understand how SCCM interacts with WSUS and leverages WSUS as part of Microsoft patch mgmt.  I have SCCM 2012 setup to apply monthly Windows Patches. At firstwas having trouble getting SCCM to deploy the patches.  At one point I had redirected SCCM to point to the WSUSContent folder on our old standalone WSUS Server rather than the local SCCM dedicated WSUS install.  What I was finding is that the local WSUS Server was not populating the WSUSContent Folder.  Didn't take much digging to find the setting under Options/Update Files and Languages where the Check box for "Download update files to this server only when updates are approved"!  Well how is one supposed to correctly get around that one?  My understanding is that it is bad practice to do approvals and declines etc in the WSUS interface that is leveraged by SCCM.  What is the correct configuration of this WSUS Server so that it will download the files and populate the WSUSContent Folder.

Hi,

We were testing software update deployment with small software update group of 10 updates and were able to test well but today we created OS wise groups and pushed 8 Software updated groups to Win7, Win8 and Win10 around 1300 machines.

Out of 8 groups 3 are having updates around 400 to 800 and you can see in updatestore.log file in the attached file.

Also I have attached few log files below showing error mentioned in the subject "OnSearchComplete - Failed to end search job. Error = 0x80072efe" which we can see in many log files as shown below. when checked we saw WSUSPool got stopped on Primary site which is SUP source for client and we changed memory to 8 GB also but still this pool gets stopped after sometime.

Can it be due to large software update group deployed?

Do I even need to install System Center Endpoint Protection on Windows 10 1607?

Hi guys,

I hear that under Windows 10 in previous cases System Center Endpoint Protection would fail to install and SCCM would just "manage" the existing built-in Defender client. Well we moved to Windows 10 1607 recently. I got a copy of the Endpoint Protection client installer v4.10.205.0, ran it on a Windows 10 1607 test VM and it installed successfully! So now I'm really confused on this one. Do I need to install System Center Endpoint Protection on Windows 10 or not? Will SCCM just "manage" defender? And which malware definitions should I push (Defender or Endpoint Protection)?

Monthly rollups install using SCCM 2012

Hi,

Is there any good blog/recommendation for Monthly rollups install, Oct 2016 onwards via SCCM 2012?

Should the same patch management process to be followed even for monthly rollups October onwards that we have been following till September 2016? Or any other special catch is there?

Regards,

Sourav Datta

SCCM is not downloading all the updates

We had issues with an SCCM installation so we reinstalled it, after uninstalling SCCM and WSUS as well as dropping the SQL databases.

However now the reinstall is not showing all the downloads.  Classification is set to all but tools

We have Windows 7 and Windows 10 products selected as below and the language is English.

Yet, after choosing "Synchronize Software Updates", waiting awhile and verify in the logs that synchronizing has completed with Microsoft.  I see only 496 Updates total and when I filter that based on the product Windows 7 I only see 10.  What am I missing?

Hi all,

Hi

first I made a deployment with "Suppress the system restart"  and deploy to a collection 1, I wanted to install automatically but not reboot automatically.

I add some servers to that collection 1.

second I made an other deployment without "Suppress the system restart" and deploy to a collection 2, I wanted to install and reboot the server automatically .

but I had a request to change some servers that were in collection 1 to be move to collection 2.

all the servers that were previously in collection 2 reboot in there windows maintenance , but all the new servers I moved did not reboot.

do you why.

Thanks

Benoit

SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 CU3 - Windows 10 1607

Hi All,

As per Technet and forums, SCCM 2012 R2SP1 CU3 will support initial 2 versions of windows 10 (i.e windows 10 1507 &1511). For Windows 10 1607 its required to have ConfigMgr Current branch 1606.

But

I can see in SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 CU3 windows 10 1607 monthly cumulative updates. Is it possible to manage the monthly cumulative update of Windows 10 1607 from SCCM 2012 R2SP1?

we will migrate the SCCM 2012 R2SP1 to ConfigMgr CB1606 soon but we need to manage few of windows 10 1607 pilot machines for testing now. So i need valuable suggestions from all of you.

Pls suggest.

TIA

Silverlight - 5.1.30514.0 auto installed

Hi,

I want to uninstall Silverlight from all Servers as i am not using the Application catalog and to svaoid the Silverlight patching etc..

I just deploy the Server 2012 R2 from SCCM Task Sequence on 2-3 Machines, and found the Silverlight  with version 5.1.30514.0 auto install. i just uninstall and check after one day its again auto installed. i check the deployment for such Servers and found Silverlight is not deployed to such Servers from SCCM..

So i am looking for how this silverlight 5.1.30414.0 auto installing and why ? is this auto installed because of SCCM Client prerequisites? i want to trace that because i don`t want to install Silverlight to all Servers auto..

I am using SCCM 2012 SP2.

Systems still show vulnerability after update KB3188744 Security update for .Net 4.5

$

My customer just did a round of patching for servers. One group updated over the weekend and another group was patched last night. The second group installed KB3188744 (Security Update for .NET Framework 4.5...), but not KB3074550 because it was superseded (and expired) by 3188744. After a vulnerability scan the second group of servers did not have the newest system.dll, system.xml.dll, or system.drawing.dll. Shouldn't the superseding update have included those?

Is anyone else seeing this problem? If so, what are you doing to remedy it?

Thanks.

Hi,

I want to pull/ generate report for software updates pushed using SCCM 2012 location wise, means we need to provide report for different locations as per AD sites for all OS pushed. We have AD sites and as per those collections we have pushed software updates

Thanks

Hi

It is quite strange that after I deployed Security update patch for September 2016 , observed that Patch 3042058 belonging to  Oct 2015 security patch got reflected automatically. Although we had 100% compliance in Nov 2015.
