Dear SCCM_Expertz,

I was trying to deploy an update package through SCCM config manger, everything works well as defined by log files except the windowUpdate.log file. I would like to show the output of the log file

Asset Intelligence - report using labels vs licenses

$

My Asset Intelligence report shows thousands of software titles, often these are just the same product but have slightly different build numbers and therefore report as different software. A good example is '7 zip', this is free although in a report I want to just see a total count rather than 15 lines telling me 15 different versions of different quantities. To give a consolidated view of products I have attempted to use labels to define:

a common product title, version ('all' or version specific) and license status; free or licensed.

I want to then report on count against licenses based on the label field rather than what SCCM defines as the 'product name'. Using the 7 zip example again, this is free but I still need to show it in a license report as a single line against an arbitrary number of licenses we hold. Of course we have several licensed products, some which have licenses per version and some which are valid across versions, I think only using labels will help get the most accurate picture.

Using the third party CSV license import method I have tested it on against several products and it seems to bring in the license info ok.

The problem is this, I looked at the built in license report '15A general license reconciliation report', but this lists them by product which is not what I want, I couldn't work out how to modify this to use labels rather than product. I then wrote the following SQL query but I cannot work out how to get this to check against the 'count of labels' I did a 'SQL count' on the label field but because I am using DISTINCT it was not accurate. This is the code I have:

SELECT DISTINCT Tag1Name AS 'Product', Tag2Name AS 'Version', Tag3Name AS 'License Status', EffectiveQuantity AS 'Licensed Amount'
FROM v_LU_SoftwareList_Editable LEFT JOIN AI_NON_MS_LICENSE

ON v_LU_SoftwareList_Editable.Tag1Name = Name
WHERE Tag3ID IS NOT NULL
GROUP BY Tag1Name, Tag2Name, Tag3Name, EffectiveQuantity

So I either want to enhance my SQL query or change the built in SSRS report to use label count.

Thanks

Pending restart prior to SCCM 2012 updates installation?

Should the client install process for updates recognize a pending restart status of the client and force a restart prior to installing updates if required? I think i have updates failing because the client is pending a restart. I'm not sure though. Clients are Windows 2008R2 and Windows 2012R2. I'm also interested in understanding what logs to check to understand how the sccm client restarts the device when needed.

My software update deployment doesnt seem to be prompting users with the option to 'Restart Now' or 'Snooze and Remind me again'

Hello All,

I am configuring a software update solution for a client and as part of the "user experience" with deploying software updates I would like user to have the option hit "Snooze and remind me again in x hour" Like in the screen shot from an earlier deployment of updates. So after the updates are downloaded and user is notified of reboot in x amount of minutes shouldn't they receive the box (screen shot) giving them the option to keep snoozing or restart?

I feel like I am missing a setting or misconfigured the deployment schedule. Do I need to make the update "Installation Deadline" to As soon as possible?

In my current testing group these are my custom client settings:

Computer Agent Settings

     - "Deployment deadline greater then 24 hours. reminds user every 1 hour"

     - "Deadline less than 24 hours, reminds user ever 1 hour"

     - "Deployment deadline less than 1 hour, reminds user ever 10 min"

Computer Restart Settings:

     - "Display 10 notification to the user that indicates intervals before the user is logged off or computer reboots" I set this 60 min

     - "Display a dialog box that the user cannot close which displays a countdown before the user is logged off of the computer" I set this as 5 min

As for the deployment settings:

 - User Experience tab>User Visual Experience>User notification: "display in software Center and show all notifications"

Hello All

I am having some confusion here. I deployed a software update package to a test pc and reboot at the end of the dead line but when I logged back in software center is showing that another reboot is required. These updates are from the same package.

Also, Its not from the WUA as I have disabled that setting in GPO. Has anyone seen the same behavior?

Hi Guys

I just notice that some of my W2012 R2 servers were not patched this WE during the defined service windows (Sunday the 10th at 2am). Some belonging to the same service windows did received the updates

So far I can't find any errors in the logs.

Those servers are reported as beeing not compliant of course.

I have no idea where to look at now.

Here are some logs. Feel free to ask for anything else.

Exemple : This server got a service windows defined sunday 2am.

No error in the Event logs.

VPN and Updates

Hi,

I am searching for some ideas how to manage Microsoft Updates on VPN connected clients.

The clients must be patched, but the users should also be able to schedule the installation for a given time.

Also the, maybe low, bandwidth should be spared.

The whole thing should run automated.

At the moment I am not having any idea who to do that.

I removed several expired updates from a Software Update group and them selected "Update Distribution Points" on the Deployment Package. This is the error message I see in PkgXferMgr.log

Any ideas on what could have caused this error message and the failed update?

Policy application state for Antimalware policies

Hi, does anyone know when does the policy applicate state is sent back to the management point/sccm server from the client so we can report on it.

When we look on a specific client in the console in the Antimalware policies tab, we can see the Policy Application State

But I didn't find where/when/how it's sent back to the MP. Is it during the hardware inventory or something else?

Thks.

Software Updates Synchronization, error code 0X80131500

Hello,

I need some help to get the Software Updates Synchronization to work again.

Some days ago the Software Updates Synchronization ended to work, with the error code 0X80131500.

(I have cleaned out, and now only test with updates for Skype and Windows 8, normally we only use the Software Updates for third-party updates via Secunia CSI)

In SMS_WSUS_SYNC_MANAGER, you will see the following error:
 WSUS Synchronization failed.
Message: Failed to sync some of the updates.
 Source: Microsoft.SystemsManagementServer.SoftwareUpdatesManagement.WsusSyncAction.WSyncAction.SyncUpdates.

If I check the log wsyncmgr.log, I sees the following:

Updates stuck at Downloading (0% complete, Past due - will be installed or Failed.

I have been getting this for a couple months it appears. I had been relying on the fact that some of my Automatic Deployment Rules are successful.

Deployment Packages shows All Success at the Distribution Point.

Software Update Groups show Deployed = Yes, Downloaded = Yes, Percent Compliant anywhere from 1%100%

The Server Software Updates show a percentage from 1%-23%

My Workstation shows 14% There is only 1 workstation in there as a test to make sure that things were working properly.

New SCCM Update deployments so I am not sure as to why in Late September they were working fine and now only the Endpoint Protection seems to be running as intended.

I have verified the Boundary Groups and IPs and everything is set there. I can get to the Updates if I log in and run them manually by KB article from the web. The DP is getting the updates downloaded but it just seems that they are not getting to the servers as intended.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SCCM 2012 R2: The software change returned error code 0x80240033(-2145124301).

I have not been able to deploy the Internet Explorer 11 software update via SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 (5.00.8239.1000).

The SCCM Client shows the following error in the Software Center console:

The software change returned error code 0x80240033(-2145124301).

On the SCCM Server I don't see any errors in the wsyncmgr.log files.  It looks clean.  I also see the update in the SCCM console and the update shows the EULA as "Accepted."

Only on the client side is where is see the errors.
In the WindowsUpdate.log file I see the following errors:

2016-01-12	16:01:56:551	3248	658	COMAPI	WARNING: ISusInternal::GetEulaText failed, hr=80240033

Also, in the UpdatesHandler.log file I see the following errors:

I have tried running "WSUSutil reset" command on the SCCM server, then manually re-synchronizing the Software Updates.  This did not resolve the issue.

I've tried re-downloading the software update to a new distribution group and deploying it.  That also, did not work.

I've tried deleting the software update cache on the client computers and then retrying the installation.  This, also, did not work.

Thank you, in advance, for your help resolving this issue.

Automatic Deployment Rule results exceed maximum number of updates

I keep getting this error anytime I try to run an ADR that pushes security updates for my Server 2008 machines.  I've disabled the old ADR that I had for 2015 and created a new one, but the first time it ran (i.e., was evaluated) it failed out with this error.  Under properties - Software Updates, the only things I'm selecting for are:

Product "Windows Server 2008 R2" OR "Windows Server 2008"

Superseded "No"

Update Classification "Security Updates"

I have similar ADR's in place that deploy security updates for Server 2003, Server 2012, and Windows 7, and I am not seeing this error.  I ALSO utilize ADR's to push out Critical updates using the same OS breakout, and do not see this problem.  Is there any way that anyone has found to deploy the Security updates for Server 2008 that doesn't run into this size limit?  Would one of the property filters under the software updates tab more effectively limit the number of updates?

According to the SCCM and WSUS logs, manual synchronization is working, but we haven't received any new updates since 12/20/2015.  Specifically we are looking for KB3114560.

Creating Custom Reports for the installed software updates

Good morning Experts,

I am trying to create a custom report containing only installed software updates in the virtual machines. The Table should contain the virtual machine name, number of updates installed and the name of those updates. For this purpose i am using the following views: v_ClientMachine, v_UpdateComplianceStatusAll, v_UpdateInfo, v_UpdateDeploymentSummary. Cn anyone suggest me an easier way to create the required report. I am able to relate the requirement in two tables. In first table i can relate virtual machine name and the various software installed, in 2nd table i am able to relate vm name and the number of software updates installed, but i cant relate the two tables. Could you suggest me anything so that i could get closer to the solution...

Thank you in advance ,

Unable to Publish Expired Update in SCUP - Certificate Issue

My SCUP cert recently expired and so I renewed it again and added it into SCUP. Today I published some new Adobe updates and they succeeded. However I cannot publish older expired updates because they were originally signed by my older, expired cert. This is what I'm getting in SCUP.log

CabUtilities.CheckCertificateSignature File cert verification failed for \\MYSCUPSERVER\UpdateServicesPackages\b29ebd4d-99e1-4f6a-a718-cddcb562985d\b92b72c2-238a-4ccf-b557-e22d5a6da333_1.cab with 2148204801 Updates Publisher 1/13/2016 7:42:36 AM 16 (0x0010)
Publisher.GetLocalFileDetails VerifyAndPublishPackage(): Failed to Verify Signature for file: \\MYSCUPSERVER\UpdateServicesPackages\b29ebd4d-99e1-4f6a-a718-cddcb562985d\b92b72c2-238a-4ccf-b557-e22d5a6da333_1.cab   1/1/1601 12:00:00 AM 2013157584 (0x77FE58D0)

I've tried checking the box to sign all the certs when I publish however that's not working either.

Configuration manager initiated reboot and others

Hello,

we have sccm 2012. when the server gets patched and rebooted, it logs 1074 with ccmexec.exe which is the sccm reboot.

But on few servers we see TrustedInstaller.exe has rebooted or svchost.exe has initiated reboot. what could be the reason. On one blog they asked to set a gpo no auto-reboot with logged on users and after setting this also server was rebooted with svchost.exe. and reason was patching. how to stop this? something to do with maintenance window?

Why can't I publish more than 100 categories of updates to WSUS from a product similar to SCUP?

We successfully published many, many non-Microsoft updates to WSUS using a product similar to SCUP.  However, we are now at a point where we cannot publish any more.  I'm wondering if now, over 8 years after  KB945536 was posted, the same limit still applies in WSUS.  We are unable to publish any updates that would cause us to exceed the 100 category limit, and this is impacting our ability to thoroughly assess and remediate third-party updates.
