Hotfixes for SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 with CU1

Windows Updates on Servers using Maintenance Windows

$

I’m trying to create a better plan for doing Microsoft Updates on servers. I currently have three collections with maintenance windows (MW). My MWs are the third Sunday, fourth Sunday, and first Sunday.  Some of our servers are not in any of these groups, because they don’t have a clear MW. The three collections have a combination of server OS.

Currently I have three ADRs that do the exact same thing, except they point to one of three collections previously mentioned. The three ADRs create three identical Software Update Groups (SUGs), which contain all server OS updates, so they are larger than the 1000 update limit.

Here’s what I would like to do, but if you have a better plan, I’m open to it. I want to create an ADR for each server OS.  To do that I need a collection for each server OS, but it can only include servers that have a MW. Can I create a collection that contains all servers running 2012R2 that have a MW?

KB3102810 and KB3102812

I see that two updates were released recently, KB3102810 and KB3102812, which resolve the following issue on Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 and Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2 respectively:

When you install updates by using System Center Configuration Manager, the installation takes a long time, and System Center Configuration Manager becomes overloaded.

Are there any further technical details available about this issue? Is Windows 8 unaffected, or is there simply no update being made available for it?

Adding just a particular Software Updates Package into the Image

I have used scup to update the third party patches into the Systems. However, I am thinking if there is a way wherein we can include just specific patches into the Task sequences used for Imaging the systems.

boundaries mapped to AD sites and location services.log identifies the exact site ,MP and DP site servers.

Copied log file snippets for your review. Pleae give your inputs to fix this issue. Thanks

Hi

Is there any way to find the PKI certificate in SCCM 2012 client machine, because the certificate is getting downloaded automatically from CA after SCCM 2012 client installation.

Thanks in advance.

Hello all,

So i see that the ADR was failed with "Auto Deployment Rule download failed". So i press Run Now. It works but on the next automatic run from the ADR it failed again. And other ADRs that run monthly thy failed also but if i start it manual it works fine too. So i found in the rouleengine.log this errors:

Hi

We have SCCM2012 SP1 which consist of 1 CAS and 1 Primary site server.

Issue1:

We are not getting an options like Deployment package and distribution points while running deploy software updates wizard. Is this a normal behaviour.

Issue2:

Not all but many of the Sccm clients windows update log says Found 0 updates in 74 categroies in search.

Troubleshooting steps done

  • Uninstalled AV.
  • Net stop wuauserv
    Net stop BITS
On registry editor  delete the following if present: (Take a backup before deleting the key)
    Delete all keys under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\
Rename the c:\windows\softwaredistribution folder to .old
    Start Windows update service:
    Net start wuauserv
    Net start BITS
  • Done Disk cleanup, cleared IE cache, cleared Temp files.
  • Done clean boot by disabling all third party applications and its services.

The issue remains same. Please help

Thanks

ADR Not Deploying EP Definitions to Some Clients

$

HI There,

I have SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3, single Site server. I have a single ADR which deploys EP definitions twice a day to the collection All Desktop and Sever Clients. The evaluation runs runs every 12 hours and the deployment schedule waits for an hour for the content to become available. I have about 3500 client machines and the ADR works for about 99% of my client machines but it is failing for a handful and I cannot figure out why.

Looking in the WindowsUpdate.log of a bad machine I can't see anything untoward but when I look in the WUAHandler.log of a bad machine I can see it never finds any missing updates. When I look at the deployment status in the Monitoring node of the console the problem machines show up in the "In Progress" tab with a status of "Downloaded update(s)" which is strange because I can't see them in the C:\Windows\CCMcache folder like I can with all the good machines.

I've also noticed that on bad machines in the DataTransferService.log I can see the copying of a file AM_Delta.exe which is around 3.5 MB but on good machines they copy a file called AM_Delta_Patch_1.versionNumber.exe which is around 300 KB.

Other deployments such as Windows Updates and Applications are all working.

A recent change I made was to consolidate multiple ADRs which were deploying EP definitions to collections I had created for geographically dispersed machines into a single ADR which deploys to the built-in All Desktop and Sever Clients collection mentioned above and it seems to be since then that the definition deployments have been failing.

I've been on this issue for over 2 days now so any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers
C

ConfigMgr TP4 - Windows 10 servicing - No upgrade category

$

Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I installed a windows server 2016 TP3 with ConfigMgr TP4.

I now want to test Windows 10 servicing, but under Windows 10 servicing | All Windows 10 updates, I can't seem to find any updates.. Looking at the categories of my SUP, I can't even select the category "upgrade".

I've read there is a KB for 2012R2 servers so the upgrade category would be available, but it's not applicable for my OS.

Is there something I'm overlooking or do I need to start over with Server 2012 R2?

Thx in advance!

SCCM 2012 R2 | Windows Updates "TS" Installation Stuck

When i install updates via Task Sequence, the deployments gets stuck.

  1. I have a collection with members
  2. I have deployed monthly updates and set the Deployment setting purpose to "Available"
  3. Now i have a TS to install updates, this TS, install all the updates which are available and required for the machine, Condition is set to "Install + Reboot"
  4. The installation of all updates happens at correct time
  5. Once all the updates are installed, the TS "application" deployment is stuck at installing.. Since this is stuck, it does not allow the machines in the collection to reboot

WSUS configuration for security

$

We're in the process of setting up an SCCM environment to use WSUS for updates for SCCM client systems.  The domain is a secure domain, so it cannot have direct access to the internet and we cannot give it direct access to the internet.

What we've come up with is the following, but we're not sure if this will function or not:

We create a stand alone WSUS (as a workgroup) in a DMZ that pulls updates from Microsoft's Update servers.  The internal SCCM/WSUS system will then pull updates from the stand alone, upstream WSUS server.  We plan to use self signed certificates in order to secure the connection between the internal SCCM/WSUS system and the upstream WSUS stand alone.

For security reasons, the upstream WSUS server (the stand alone), must not show any foot print of the secured domain (so if the stand alone system is hacked, there would be no way of finding out information about the internal domain).  The data flow must always be a pull (the internal SCCM/WSUS will initiate connection to the stand alone WSUS system, but the stand alone WSUS system could never initiate connection to the SCCM/WSUS internal system, similarly when the stand alone WSUS system talks to Microsoft update).  There will be no trust relationship (and the stand alone will not be in any domain at all, but just a solitary workgroup system sitting in a DMZ).

Can this be done or do we need to look for some other method in order to move updates into the secured domain (really don't want to do the disconnected domain method where there is an air gap).

Thanks,

Chris

SCCM2012 and WSUS Updates

Hi

Wanted to obtain some clarity on a confusing view I seem to be getting from a few people

Domain A : NUmerous Windows 2012 Servers and SCCM 2012 and SCOM 2012 Platform

Domain B : WSUS Server

We want to update all the Servers from Domain A from the WSUS in Domain B

However - we are using SCCM 2012 to connect to the WSUS Server.....

We can obtain and get the necessary Ports opened etc [80 and 443?

However - I am hearing that the WSUS server needs to have Admin access permissions on the share where the Updates are kept - I find this somewhat odd - is this true? Does the Server that needs to be patched or the WSUS share need ADMIN access permissions for either?

Failed to change the Bit Locker Protection status before patching.

Hi

As per the requirement we need to disable the Bit locker protection status before proceeding with patching and after patching it has re-enabled. So I wrote a vbscript to get the status and if the protection is enable the script will disable it. The script also create the log file with protection status. this was tested manually on Bit locker machines which was successfully disable the bit locker protection status.

Now i want to test in our environment on some machines as a pilot.  We U are using SCCM 2012, when we deployed this script package to the client machines, in script log and execmgr.log showing as the script was ran successfully and return code as 0. But when we check on the drive we didn't find the small warning symbol on the Drive icon. Don't understand where i was wrong.

this is the script what i am using....

Set objShell = CreateObject("Wscript.Shell")
strComputer = "."
sysDir = objShell.ExpandEnvironmentStrings("%windir%")

Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\CIMV2\Security\MicrosoftVolumeEncryption")

Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery("SELECT * FROM Win32_EncryptableVolume",,48)

For Each objItem in colItems

 	Dim ProtectionStatus
   	objItem.GetProtectionStatus ProtectionStatus
	'Wscript.Echo ProtectionStatus
	cmdline = Chr(34) & sysDir & "\system32\manage-bde.exe" & Chr(34) & " -protectors -disable C:"
	'WScript.Echo cmdline
	  If ProtectionStatus = 1 Then
 		returncode = objShell.Run(cmdline, 0, True)
 		WScript.Quit(returncode)
	  End if
Next

Thank you for your help...!!!
