Hi All,

I have an issue in downloading software updates from one of my DP in SCCM 2012 to the clients connected in domain. I am facing this issue in more than 50% present of pc in a single OU. Looks like its access denied error but didn’t get any exact fix steps either from google.

boundaries mapped to AD sites and location services.log identifies the exact site ,MP and DP site servers.

Copied log file snippets for your review. Pleae give your inputs to fix this issue. Thanks

Software Update Scan Cycle hurting performance

Hi,

Even after the July updates to the Windows Update client we are still having many users complain about the computers stuttering during the weekly software updates scan cycle initiated by SCCM.  Some machines are almost unusable during the scan.  Is anyone else still seeing this?  We've pushed out the latest WUA and also cleaned up WSUS and set a weekly task to keep it clean but the problem won't go away...

Thanks

Deloyment of next build for Windows 10 with ConfMgr 2012

I´m running Confmgr 2012 R2 SP1 CU1 and I´ve enabled Windows updates for W10. I´m able to deploy cumulative updates for Win10 fine, but when at last thursday MS released new build (10560 or something), I don´t see it in SUP. I´m not even sure, how this should go, tried to find direct answer from the blogs, but I didn´t. So are we able to push new builds with CM 12, or do we need to wait for vNEXT to be able to do that?

Server reboot not in defined Maintenance Window

Hi,

Maybe somebody have an explanation of this thing.

I have a collection where exist only Production systems, that i need to reboot at Saturday 3AM-4AM. MW is defined for this collection. All updates are deployed with "as soon as possible" option. And in User experience only "Software updates installation" is enabled in deadline behavior.

But after all updates applied, server going to reboot and not waiting for MW.

checked MW for this system - there is only one, that i defined.

in RebootCoordinator.log i have the following:

WSUS & SCUP fail on Windows 10 only

Hello Everyone,

I'm encountering a problem with an OSD Task Sequence of Windows 10 with steps to update software.
The Windows Updates works - but when SCCM try to install a SCUP Update (for example Adobe Acrobat X) it fail with error:
0x80004005

Strange thing is - that the same task sequence, with Windows 7 instead of Windows 10 work flawlessly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Security Updates Best Practice

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to SCCM and I'm in the middle of setting up our software updates just  for Windows 7,8.1 and 10 clients.

They are very security conscious  where I work and would like any security or critical updates deployed asap.,so i would like to stage just the security updates and test them first.

So I have created three device collections for Windows 7 , 8 and 10 pilot machines and three device collections for standard Windows 7,8 and 10 machines.

Then for each of the three pilot collections I have created its own ADR to download any security or critical updates for that OS and set them to install immediately and with the deadline immediate.

Then for each of the standard OS collections I have created it's own ADR and set the updates to be available after 1 day.

My thinking is that the pilot machines get the latest security updates for a day and if there are no issues let the standard machine download then the next day .

I would appreciate anybody's thoughts, if I'm on the right track or am I creating too much work for a simply task?

Many Thanks

SCCM 2012 allow clients to connect anonymously - better solution?

Hi everyone,

as I tried to deploy some applications I got an Acces Denied Error in the dataTransferlog.log

"Error sending DAV request. HTTP code 401, status 'Unauthorized' DataTransferService 21.06.2013 16:21:01 5308 (0x14BC)"

I solved this problem by allowing anonymous Client Connections in the DP-Properties:

I don´t think this is the best solution for this problem.

What permissions have to be set to get application deployment running without this anonymous connections?

Thanks in advance

Christian

Hi Folks i have installed SUP in new environment without proxy then proxy was needed as our server was not having internet connection there was no settings available to give proxy after installation except uninstallation of SUP but rather then uninstall i have given proxy in WSUS which is present in the same box but in proxy settings i have checkmarked use this proxy this check mark automatically removes after some times is this the right approach to give proxy settings only in wsus or i have to uninstall SUP and reinstall with proxy settings.

Windows 10 TH2 Update - WSUS / SCCM

$

Hi,

According to this blog post the TH2 update for Windows 10 will only be available via WSUS (in our case SCCM) following a patch update for WSUS itself:

http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/topic/13251-first-major-update-for-windows-10-available-today-windows-10-version-1511

Also stated in the blog is that you can't deploy this update unless you are running ConfigMgr VNext due to the differences in this type of update.

Does this mean we currently have no ability to deploy TH2 from our internal management systems? How do MS expect us to upgrade Windows 10 endpoints with TH2?

Running ConfigMgr 2012 R2 SP1 CU1.

Thanks,

Doug

Software Update deployments never changing status from "Unknown"

Hi,

I've deployed Software updates to test client on newly installed sccm server, updates installed few hours ago , but in the monitoring->deployments the client is still in the "Unknown - client check passed/Active" status (tried summarization/refresh).

I have no reporting services point role on my sccm and no SQL reporting services installed, are those required for software update deployments to report their status?

I can not find relevant logs that would indicate some problems.

Successfully update WIM using Offline Servicing but Install Updates task Attempts to Re-Install Updates

$

My end goal is to be able to deploy a fully patched Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard OS.  My Primary Site Server is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with ADK 8.1 installed, Site Version is 5.00.8239.1000.  The issue I'm having with deploying Windows Server 2012 R2 is that even though I have successfully installed ALL updates on the OS Image using offline servicing, the updates are attempting to re-install themselves again during ANY task sequence (build & capture, or even deploy) using the updated WIM (ensured all dist points were updated after successful offline servicing).  Steps I've taken:

  1. Extracted my Windows Server 2012 R2 ISO to \\sysctr\src\os installers\win2012r2\
  2. Imported the Operating System Image \\sysctr\src\os installers\win2012r2\sources\install.wim and distributed content to all dist points.
  3. Ensured all Windows Server 2012 R2 software updates that were not Expired or Superseded (exactly 218 updates) were downloaded, packaged, distributed to my distribution points, and deployed as 'Available' to my 2012 R2 OSD collection.
  4. Targeted the Windows Server 2012 R2 OS Image I just imported in step 2 for Scheduled Updates (Offline Servicing) to take place immediately. 218 updates were selected to apply to the image.
  5. Monitored OfflineServicingMgr.log and validated that all indexes on the 2012 R2 WIM were updated with 214 of the 218 update.
  6. Console reported scheduled "Scheduled Updates Status" was Successful.
  7. Updated Distribution Points with the updated version of the Windows Server 2012 R2 OS Image.
  8. Deployed the updated 2012 R2 image using a build and capture sequence that includes an "Install All Software Updates" to hopefully catch the 4 updates that weren't applied during offline servicing.
  9. OSD task sequence is launched on a test server in my 2012 R2 OSD collection: OS is applied, and during the "Install All Software Updates" task 4 updates are installed, the test server reboots and then 79 updates begin installing.  I verified that the updates that are currently being installed during this task sequence were already installed on the WIM (cross checked KB numbers from deployment screen and the OfflineServicingMgr.log and the "Installed Updates" tab from the properties of the WIM.

I've also tried just deploying the updated 2012 R2 WIM without an "Install All Software Updates" and the updates that were applied during the offline servicing appear in the list of Installed Updates and only 4 updates are available from Microsoft. If I check the SCCM Software Center though ALL of the Windows Server 2012 R2 updates are listed as available.

Pending Verification

Hello,

I have several Security Updates that are attempting have failed or have a status of "Pending verification".  In addition, several of the Pending verifications are for MS Office 2010 products that are no longer installed on my system (I'm currently running Office 2016).  Can someone suggest some troubleshooting steps?  I've already re-ran the ConfigMgr actions and rebooted my system.

Thank You!

How to Remove Software Updates from local machine SCCM Cache?

$

SCCM 2012 R2

We are discovering in our environment that some older machines with smaller hard drives are filling up and the SCCM cache is consuming a large amount of space. We've configured the size restrictions and even manually emptied cache but have not managed to shrink the cache size. As we've found software updates are not restricted by these settings and apparently do not honor manual clearing. At least that is my takeaway from:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712288.aspx#BKMK_ClientCache

In our environment we do have a few years worth of software update groups created by auto deployment rules and many are no longer needed as they are baked into more current images. I've begun the process to clean this up by following this blog to remove expired updates:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2012/04/12/software-update-content-cleanup-in-system-center-2012-configuration-manager.aspx

However, I am not certain that this will have an effect on the local machine cache.

After cleanup of the expired updates, I am also willing to delete older software update group packages themselves if it will help but am not sure if there is a best process for that for my specific need.

Specifically, what options do I have if any to remove older software updates from the system and most importantly the local computer cache?

SP1 or SP2 download site for SCCM 2012 R2

Hi,

The link below says that the SC2012_SP2_Configmgr_SCEP.exe andSC2012_R2_SP1_Configmgr.exe service packs are available from the Volume Licensing Service Center, but there's no SP1 or SP2 available from there.  Can anyone confirm that they're available ?  We'd prefer not to use from the Microsoft Evaluation Center.

Thanks

http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2015/05/19/sysctr-2012-configmgr-sp2-and-systctr-2012-r2-configmgr-sp1-faq.aspx

The service packs are available on the Microsoft Evaluation Center, MSDN, and coming soon to the Volume Licensing Service Center (on 27th May) – which download should I use?
  • You can download these files from the most convenient location. If you are using the files on the Microsoft Evaluation Center, you can transition from the product evaluation to the full version of the product by using your existing product key.

ADR Rules - No rules showing in console, but SUGs getting created by AutoUpdateRuleEngine

Hi,

I have walked into a configuration of SCCM where there are Software Update Groups being created by the AutoUpdateRuleEngine, however, there are no rules at all within Automatic Deployment Rules. Is it possible that the ADR's have been done somewhere else? I am also a full administrator within SCCCM, so I don't believe permissions are preventing me from seeing any ADR's. Any ideas on how I trace where the rules have been created/configured would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Andrew

Now going to IIS logs on  the WSUS server à found this :

 StatusHits
 200.04986427
 500.083805
 400.03209
 401.25

So, a lot of 500.0 status that translates to Internal server error.

Checking, the event log, I found a lot of events Event ID 5013 — IIS Application Pool Availability

Event info mention : WsusPool

The time errors 500.0 occurs on IIS match th etime errors are reported by the client.

Also found this in IIS logs :

 UriHttpStatusSubStatusWin32StatusTotal
 /ClientWebService/client.asmx500005152
 /ClientWebService/client.asmx5000641382
 /ClientWebService/client.asmx5000123612

Do you have any idea to troubleshoot this error ?

Failed to NotifyProgress through Sdm callback, error = 0x8007012a

Hi All,

I'm having a problem on my Server 2008 R2 x64 clients where a large number of them will install Software Updates deployed to them at the start of their maintenance window, but then they won't reboot when necessary.  They all go to a "Requires Restart" status in Software Center.

The only clue i'm seeing is in the UpdatesHandler.log, where this error message is spammed a ton of times:

Failed to NotifyProgress through Sdm callback, error = 0x8007012a

After that spamming, the UpdatesHandler.log file looks like this:

Any ideas?  All my Server 2012 R2 clients seem to be fine.  I don't see any other issues in my sccm logs, but i can provide anything anyone wants to see.

Thanks,
J

Automatic Updates

Hi,

Here is my situation. I have a network where Automatic Updates are frequently running on every PC. There is no pattern to it except it usually happens after MS Forefront Endpoint Checks for updates (which is every 2 hours).

The AU are set to run once a day on the PCs.

We have an SCCM installed on the network which does scans every so often as well.

I am wondering why I see AU making so many calls to Windows Update per day when it's set to once a day?

Sorry my information is a bit vague. But any ideas welcome.

Thanks in Advance.

This month's updates went out to our clients last night. Most of my clients over 2000 so far are showing errors in my deployment status: Network connection: Windows Update Agent encountered transient network connection-related errors.

An actual client WUAHandler.log shows the following and it is repeating :

Its a WSUS Update Source type ({65BDC069-FC9A-46C2-882D-DF0D0175B09D}), adding it. WUAHandler 11/18/2015 2:11:17 PM 10920 (0x2AA8)

Any thoughts before I call Microsoft on what might be happening?
